Ridge Racer DS

Just the one track today. Technically, I played it more than once, trying out the other control methods. They’re rubbish, though, so I quit. Went back to d-pad control, and won the race – just getting first place on the last straight. I really need to figure out how to play without pinballing my way around the track.

Ridge Racer DS

Just a quick go, and I finished the third track on the first “set” in first place. If you see what I mean. I unlocked “Car Attack” mode then, which I played, and won a car. The Pink Mappy one, in fact. It’s, er, great. I also noticed, while racing to win it, that you can do outrageous powerslides like those in Outrun 2. Which means Ridge Racer DS is now exactly 237% better than I’d thought previously. Hurrah, eh?

Ridge Racer DS

This arrived today, but I haven’t managed to spend long on it yet as my DS’s battery went flat. I did manage to come first on the first two races, however. Graphics are “OK”. I’m not really sure exactly what I was expecting there, but they’re nice enough to not distract from the game, anyway. Not in the same league as the PSP Ridge Racers though, obviously. I’ve only tried the d-pad control option so far. It’ll take a lot …

Ridge Racer 3D (3DS)

And now I have completed the Basic Grand Prix set of events. It was actually pretty easy, and when it did start getting a bit more difficult I bought a faster car with “dynamic” drift, which was easier to control than I expected it to be. It became essential for drifting round the less tight corners too, as it kicks in by itself at the right angle and really helps build up the nitrous bar. Now I’m onto the Advanced …

Ridge Racer 3D (3DS)

I don’t really know why I’ve started playing this again in the last few days, but it’s actually a lot better than my memory seems to suggest. I mean, it’s not a bad game at all, but of the four games I got at or around the 3DS launch, I liked it least. Mainly because I’ve never really been a fan of Ridge Racer. But I’m enjoying it now, and I’ve completed three more Grand Prix events in it as …

Ridge Racer 3D (3DS)

This actually arrived on Monday, but since I didn’t have a 3DS at the time, all I could do was look at it and lick the box. I have never really been a big fan of Ridge Racer, but I’m finding this fun. The 3D is incredibly good, and really adds to the game, but the graphics are a little disappointing. They don’t bother me, and they’re clearly streets ahead of Ridge Racer DS, but they’re not as impressive as …

The 3DS is Here

Actually, it arrived yesterday. It’s very shiny. And very, very impressive. I’m amazed at the difference a bit of 3D makes to games – those on other consoles suddenly look very flat and “wrong”. Even just the subtly 3D menus, splash screens, and “screen furniture” make the games more alive. No doubt over the next few days I’ll post more of my thoughts, but here’s a brainjumble purge to be getting on with: The console Surprisingly small. It’s supposed to …

Ridge Racer 6 (360)

Really made some progress on this tonight. Completed about 12 or so races, which takes me to just three races away from the bottom right of the map. I’ve unlocked another car (a Pac-Man one), but I don’t want to use it as it’s one of them non-standard drift ones, and I can’t cope with them.

Ridge Racer 6 (360)

Nooooo! Project Gotham has broken it! The handling on Project Gotham is so completely different, that I really struggled to control my Kilik Starnose thingie and it’s wierd drifting mechanism. Try as I might, I just couldn’t complete one of the tracks. So, I changed my plan to do a “loop” on the map into a plan to make my way across the bottom of the map to the right. This meant that I could use my Gaplus car instead, …

Ridge Racer 6 (360)

It’s cheapy-cheap at Play, which is where I got it, but then realised I could have saved 15p by buying from Play-Asia. Bah. Make not the same mistake! I didn’t really know what to expect. All of the other Ridge Racers have left me cold, and the DS version is one of the worst games ever created, but this, is actually pretty good. In fact, it’s not far off Outrun 2 good. Well, it may perhaps be 75% of the …

Gameking – Unleash the Games!

<< Previous (The Gameking) Gameking Games Readers without short-term memory problems will recall that I bought 13 games to go with my Gameking. Each and every one is special in its own special way. Special as in “special needs”, naturally. Firstly, a few points about Gameking games. The cartridges are strikingly familiar to anyone who has ever played on a Game Boy, since they’re exactly the same as Game Boy cartridges. Almost, anyway – instead of “Game Boy” they say …

Top 10 Mega Drive Games

Of every games console or computer I’ve ever owned, the Sega Mega Drive is probably my favourite. It was my first console, and the one I own most games for. It also saw me through most of university, despite the N64, Saturn and PS1 all having just come out – I obviously didn’t have any money to buy them. It wasn’t until the end of 1999 that I bought something newer, meaning I’d had a full 8 years of Megadriving. …

Misc PSP Demos (Demo) (PSP)

With my new-found ability to download game demos to my PSP, I put a load on to play today. Space Invaders ExtremeExcellent! It’s exactly what the title suggests – Space Invaders, only Extreme! It’s a lot like the DS Space Invaders game from a couple of years ago, but with more power-ups and a combo system. And bonus levels. Apparently there’s a DS version of this PSP title too, which is supposedly even better. LocoRocoSeveral demos, in fact. I really …
